Roosevelt initially moved to the West for game, rumors have been flowing around of masses of bison roaming the Western plains. Upon arrival, Roosevelt was greeted by a baron land with no bison. After staying in the West for some time, Roosevelt became aware of the mass killings of bison and disease stricken animals; he began his conservationist ideals. In Roosevelt's presidential term he has created 51 Federal Bird Reservations, 4 National Game Preserves, 150 National Forests, 5 National Parks, and 18 National Monuments. Ultimately, Roosevelt protected approximately 230,000,000 acres of public land.
